Activ8Kids! Promotional Bike Ride - Albany
In the tradition of the Activ8Kids Bike Ride some rain must fall as it did on Friday. North Albany Academy was the venue of the finale of the Long Island to Albany Activ8Kids bike ride. The band played while the school drill team marched in, followed by several school clubs and the Activ8Kids Bikers. In spite of the rainy conditions there was no dampening of spirits in the welcome the riders received.
Albany Mayor Gerald Jennings, Police Chief James Tuffey, Joseph Pennisi from the Albany County Executive's office, Benita Zahn of Channel 13 WNYT and Albany County Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Community Relations Linda Jackson-Chalmers gave accolades to the riders and reinforced the Activ8Kids message to the students. The grand prize bicycle was awarded to a third grader who had participated in the school's Police Athletic League (PAL) Program. The riders met briefly with several of the school's newsletter club members to discuss their experiences and answer questions about what Activ8Kids stands for.
The riders, deciding that discretion being the better part of valor, favored a dry seat in a van over a 50-mile soaking. The Activ8Kids Team members were recognized for their accomplishments by their colleagues and family members. The message is to walk-the-walk, not just talk-the-talk.
