Reciprocity Information
If you are planning on working or attending school in New York State and you currently hold an EMS certification or license from another state or the U.S. Military you may be able to obtain a New York State Certification through the reciprocity process.
New York State does not grant certification as an EMT or Advanced EMT based solely on National Registry.
If you would like to obtain New York State Certification based on another state's certification or license or your military training please review the information below and follow the instructions.
Attention Reciprocity Applicants with National Registry Certification Only
National Registry has recently changed their policy with regard to issuing verifications. Due to this change, it is no longer necessary to send the Verification of EMT Certification Form DOH-2178, to National Registry. Complete just the top portion of the form and submit it to NYS DOH Bureau of EMS along with the rest of your application packet.
