Dementia
Dementia is a gradual and progressive decline in memory, thinking and reasoning skills. There are several disorders that can cause dementias. Dementias can affect daily life from bathing and cooking to finding one's way home. The most common cause of dementia in the United States is Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's disease also may affect a person's personality and behavior and relationships with family and friends. Education and supportive services can improve the quality of life for patients with Alzheimer's disease and their families.
