Footnotes:

1 Represents cases reported to the NYSDOH by local health departments during 2005, excluding NYC.

2 Case Definition: 1) A discrete onset of symptoms and jaundice or elevated liver enzymes (= 7 times upper limit normal); and, 2) Confirmatory anti-HCV or HCV RNA positive test result. Confirmed case classification: Meets both the clinical and laboratory criteria.

3 Acute hepatitis C cases are difficult to diagnose for several reasons; therefore, it is likely that these data reflect an underreporting of acute hepatitis C cases.

4 Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System, 2003.

5 Includes only counties that reported at least one case of acute hepatitis C in 2005.

Note: Percentages may not equal 100 due to rounding
