HIV Treatment
HIV Treatment Fraud
This half-day, skills program will prepare participants to educate HIV positive consumers on how to evaluate health claims and identify health fraud. Participants will receive strategies for working with consumers to address treatment fraud.
Topics to be covered include:
- HIV/AIDS treatment fraud and its impact on consumers;
- Tips on how to help consumers identify treatment fraud;
- Challenges of discussing HIV/AIDS treatment fraud; and
- A new consumer handbook entitled, "Too Good to be True? What You Need to Know to Avoid HIV/AIDS Treatment Fraud."
Prerequisite: None
Audience: All Health and Human Service Providers including: Treatment Educators, Case Managers, Community Educators, Client Advocates and other providers who work with HIV positive consumers.

HIV/AIDS Treatment Update
This half-day training will provide updated information for non-clinical providers about advances in HIV/AIDS treatment. Programs are updated regularly to address emerging issues and will cover various topics ranging from:
- New developments in Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART)
- Newly approved (or soon to come) medications;
- Vaccine research;
- Drug resistance and resistance testing
- Drug/drug interactions;
- Updates to treatment guidelines; and
- The role of the non-clinical provider in supporting decisions around treatment
Prerequisite: Prior attendance at a basic training, such as "Overview of HIV Infection and AIDS", is required.
Audience: All Health and Human Service Providers who work with people with HIV/AIDS.

Promoting Adherence to HIV Treatment
This half-day training will assist participants to identify and take advantage of multiple opportunities to support treatment adherence in the course of their work.
Participants will increase their knowledge and practice skills to:
- Provide support at the initiation of therapy;
- Discuss side effects and their impact on adherence;
- Support clients in taking advantage of various adherence tools;
- Identify the importance of peer support; and
- Monitor adherence throughout the course of care.
Prerequisite: It is strongly recommended that participants have previous knowledge or training on basic HIV/AIDS information.
Audience: All non-physician Health and Human Service Providers.

CME: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Medical Society of the State of New York through the joint sponsorship of the School of Public Health, University at Albany, SUNY and the AIDS Institute, New York State Department of Health. The School of Public Health is accredited by the MSSNY to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. The School designates this educational activity for a maximum of 4.0 hours of category one credit towards the AMA/PRA. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
CNE: The University at Albany, School of Public Health is an approved provider of continuing education by the New York State Nurses Association's Council on Continuing Education, which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurse's Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Certificates will be awarded for 4 contact hours within 3-4 weeks upon successful completion of the verification/continuing education form.
