If you are living with HIV, your doctor orders HIV-related laboratory tests as part of your health care. Beginning June 1, 2005, laboratories will report the results of additional tests to the New York State Department of Health (DOH):

  • Undetectable HIV nucleic acid tests
  • All CD4 lymphocyte tests results
  • Drug resistance and subtype tests

Since June 1, 2000, HIV+ antibody, HIV nucleic acid tests with detectable levels and CD4 lymphocytes below 500 have been reported. The reporting process is very secure and confidential.

Getting these test results will help the DOH: 1) track the quality of health care for people with HIV, 2) find out about drug-resistant strains of HIV in the community, and 3) better track the epidemic to plan prevention, health care and support services.
